Privacy at a glance
- Your saved quotes, sources, collections and reflections stay on your device. Pocket Capsule does not operate an account system or a server for your library.
- The launch version contains no third-party advertising, tracking, analytics, artificial-intelligence or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We receive personal information only if you contact us directly, or where Apple provides limited App Store or diagnostic information under your Apple settings.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
Pocket Capsule (the “App”) is developed and operated by Shwe Yamin Murphy, based in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us” or “the developer”). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Pocket Capsule, visit pocketcapsule.app, or contact us about the App.
Pocket Capsule is available internationally and is intended for a general audience. It is not specifically directed at children and is not offered in Apple’s Kids Category.
For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@pocketcapsule.app. For general support, contact support@pocketcapsule.app.
2. Information stored by Pocket Capsule on your device
Pocket Capsule lets you create and save entries that may include:
- the words or quote you enter;
- a source or author;
- a collection name;
- a reflection, including “Why I kept this”;
- creation and update dates;
- favourite status; and
- technical information needed to organise, display and back up the entry, such as identifiers and backup metadata.
This information may be personal data depending on what you choose to enter. It is stored locally by the App. We do not receive, view or store your Pocket Capsule library on developer-operated servers.
Please avoid entering information about another person unless you have a legitimate reason to do so. You are responsible for the content you choose to record, export or share.
3. How local storage works
The current launch version of Pocket Capsule:
- does not require an account or login;
- does not use a developer-operated server or database for your library;
- does not use CloudKit or provide Pocket Capsule syncing between your devices;
- does not send your saved entries to an artificial-intelligence service or other external API;
- does not include third-party advertising, tracking, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs; and
- does not sell or rent your personal information.
If you choose to send App content to us yourself, for example in a support email, the support provisions in section 9 apply.
4. Website hosting
The Pocket Capsule website at pocketcapsule.app is a static website delivered using Cloudflare. We do not use advertising cookies, behavioural tracking or third-party analytics on the website. Cloudflare may process limited technical information, such as IP addresses, request information and security logs, to deliver and protect the website under its own applicable terms and privacy practices. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating, securing and protecting the website.
5. Home Screen widgets
Pocket Capsule offers small and medium Home Screen widgets. To make the widget work, the App and its widget extension use an Apple App Group container. This allows the widget extension to access the limited local information needed to display a saved entry.
The widget automatically selects a saved entry using the App’s daily selection logic. It may display the quote and source or author. Longer text may be shortened or truncated to fit the widget.
Widget content can be visible to anyone who can see your Home Screen. You control whether to add or remove the widget, so consider whether your saved content is suitable for display on your device screen.
6. Importing and exporting backups
Pocket Capsule can export your library as a JSON file using Apple’s system file export interface. You manually choose where to save or share the file.
An export may include your saved words, source, collection, reflection, creation and update dates, favourite status, technical identifiers, test-entry status if present, and backup metadata.
Important: the exported JSON file is not encrypted by Pocket Capsule. Anyone who can access the file may be able to read its contents. Store and share exports carefully.
After export, the file is outside Pocket Capsule’s control. Its storage, security, retention and deletion depend on the location or service you choose, such as Files, iCloud Drive, another cloud provider, email or messaging services.
Pocket Capsule may reject an imported file if it is damaged, incompatible or incorrectly formatted. The “Replace Existing Data” import option deletes the App’s current local entries and replaces them with the entries contained in the selected backup.
7. Device and iCloud backups
Depending on your Apple device and backup settings, iOS may include Pocket Capsule’s local App data in a device or iCloud backup. These backups are controlled through your Apple account, device and backup settings and are handled under Apple’s own terms and privacy practices.
We cannot view, manage, recover or delete information contained in your Apple device or iCloud backups.
8. Information Apple may provide
Apple may process information relating to App Store downloads, purchases, device backups or diagnostics under Apple’s own privacy terms. Depending on your Apple settings, Apple may make aggregated App Store statistics or limited crash and diagnostic information available to us through App Store Connect.
We use any such information only to understand App performance, investigate faults and improve reliability. It is not used for advertising or to build profiles of users, and it does not give us access to the content of your Pocket Capsule library.
9. When you contact us
If you contact us by email, we may receive your name, email address, the contents of your message, and any information or attachments you choose to provide. We use this information to:
- respond to your question or support request;
- investigate and resolve technical issues;
- maintain the security and reliability of Pocket Capsule; and
- comply with legal obligations or establish, exercise or defend legal claims where necessary.
Our legal basis under UK data-protection law is normally our legitimate interest in providing support and operating a safe and reliable App. Where processing is required by law, we rely on the relevant legal obligation.
Attachments and sensitive information
Please do not email an exported backup, screenshot or other App content unless it is necessary for your support request. Before sending anything, remove or obscure information that is not needed, including names and sensitive personal information.
We do not ask users to send special-category information, such as health, religious, political or sexual information. If unnecessary sensitive information is sent to us, we may delete it without retaining or reviewing it beyond what is needed to identify and remove it. If an attachment containing App content is genuinely needed to investigate an issue, we will use it only for that support purpose and delete it promptly afterwards.
10. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Our email is provided through Apple iCloud Mail, and our website is delivered using Cloudflare. These providers may process limited information needed to deliver email, deliver and protect the website, prevent abuse and maintain security. They may act on our behalf or under their own applicable terms. We limit access to support information to what is reasonably necessary.
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to a lawful request, protect users or the public, investigate fraud or security issues, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
11. Retention and deletion
Information stored on your device
Your Pocket Capsule entries remain on your device until you delete individual entries, edit them, replace the existing data during an import, erase the App’s data, or delete the App.
Collections are based on the collection text assigned to entries. A collection stops appearing when no remaining entry is assigned to it.
Deleting the App will generally remove its locally stored data from that device. Copies may remain in Apple device or iCloud backups until those backups are deleted or expire under your Apple settings. Exported JSON files remain wherever you saved or shared them until you delete them there.
Because we do not receive or store your local library, we cannot access, recover or delete it for you.
Support correspondence
We normally retain routine support correspondence for no longer than 12 months after the last substantive contact, so that we can follow up, understand recurring issues and maintain appropriate records. We may retain a record for longer where reasonably necessary to comply with law or deal with a dispute.
Attachments containing Pocket Capsule content will be deleted as soon as the support issue is resolved and normally within 30 days of resolution, unless a longer period is legally required. You may ask us to delete support information sooner by contacting privacy@pocketcapsule.app, subject to any lawful reason we need to retain it.
12. Security
Pocket Capsule relies on Apple’s iOS app sandbox and App Group mechanisms to keep local App and widget data separated from unrelated apps. We take reasonable steps to protect any support information we receive.
No storage or transmission method is completely secure. In particular, exported JSON files are not encrypted by Pocket Capsule, and email should not be treated as a secure channel for highly sensitive information.
13. International processing
Pocket Capsule is operated from the United Kingdom and is available internationally. Apple iCloud Mail or Cloudflare may process support or website technical information in countries outside the United Kingdom or your country of residence. Where data-protection law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
14. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information we hold about you. Under UK data-protection law, these may include the right to request access, correction, deletion or restriction, to object to certain processing, and to receive information about how your data is used.
These rights apply only to information we actually hold, such as support correspondence. We cannot fulfil a request concerning the contents of your local Pocket Capsule library because we do not possess or have access to it.
To exercise a privacy right, email privacy@pocketcapsule.app. We may need to verify that the request relates to you, but we will not ask for more information than is reasonably necessary.
You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) or to the data-protection authority where you live. Information about the ICO is available at ico.org.uk.
15. Children’s privacy
Pocket Capsule is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed at children. The App does not require an account and does not transmit a user’s saved library to us.
If a child contacts us for support, we will handle the message only as needed to respond and will avoid retaining unnecessary personal information. If we learn that we hold personal information from a child that should not have been provided, we will delete it where appropriate.
16. Future features and changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy describes the launch version of Pocket Capsule, which is free to use. We may introduce optional paid features in the future. Before introducing any feature that materially changes how personal information is handled, we will update this Privacy Policy and the App Store privacy disclosures as required.
We may also update this policy to reflect legal, technical or operational changes. The updated version will show a new effective date and will be made available in the App and through the App Store privacy-policy link. Where appropriate, we will provide additional notice of a material change.
